There are several activities going on in the evening time in Thane. Thane has seen development of places for night life with many night clubs near Teen hath naka and on Pokhran road no.1 &2, also Ghodbunder road. There are a variety of good places to eat as well as hang out. The Panchpakhadi area, in particular, is well-known for its many eateries, having a wide variety of restaurants, ice-cream parlors, cake-shops, cafés and snack shops all on a single road. Off late due to mushrooming of big housing projects many hangout places have cropped up for example vasant vihar and Hirandandani meadows shopping centre known as emerald shopping centre off pokhran road no 2. It also has many water parks like Suraj Water Park, Tiku-ji-ni Wadi, Shangrila are few of them.

The city also has sprouting malls and multiplexes (Korum Mall next to Cadbury's, Eternity mall at Teen Haat Naka, Lake City Mall at Kapurbaudi junction and its multiplex, Cinemax (Cinewonder) on Ghodbunder Road). Ghokhale Road and Ram Maruti Road are also famous for shopping for clothes and other items. In addition, there are a number of older single-screen theatres, prominent among them, Malhar Talkies on Ghokhale Road and Anand Talkies (near Thane station on the east side) Vandana Talkies at Teen Petrol Pump.

The other famous malls that are close to Thane are in Mulund on L.B.S Road i.e. R-Mall and Nirmal Lifestyle. The other mall that is close-by is the R City Mall at Ghatkopar.
